Top California Cabernet is so pricey. Are there any values?
Some of the top producers also make a second label. The value wine, however, generally has a completely different name from premium wine. The second label of Duckhorn is called Decoy, and Pahlmeyer produces Jason. Unfortunately there is no rule to identify these second labels. So, the simplest way to find out is just ask if any of the wines on the list are "second labels" from top producers. They can save you from 1/3 to ½ the price of the statusy parent wine.
